Lazarus Freelancing LLC
My Story
Hi, I’m Andrew Caspersen. Through my outsourced work platform, Lazarus Freelancing, I help clients execute on a range of projects. I deliver content, due diligence, analysis and advice to innovative firms seeking to do more with less. I’ve been blessed with an incredible life journey that has taught me a few skills and quite a few hard-earned lessons, which I can now leverage to help companies achieve their business goals. Perhaps my story is best understood through the lens of a play:
Act One: Private Equity Investor & Banker
I was legally trained (Harvard Law 2003, honors) and spent the first 13 years of my career in private equity, first as investor (Coller Capital, principal) and then as an investment banker (Park Hill Group, partner). Analyzing and advising venture and buyout companies from the perspectives of both a principal and an agent was an ideal training ground for understanding and implementing value creation across a broad range of industries and capital structures.
Act Two: Inmate # 75827-054
While my career was flourishing, my moral life was withering. My obsessive gambling habit led me down a path of sinful and criminal choices, culminating in fraudulent borrowing from those who trusted and loved me - the worst of betrayals. For that I spent over two years in a federal prison camp and another three years on probation. Like the parable of the prodigal son, I was given an unmerited new spiritual life and God’s divine mercy was revealed through loved ones and strangers alike. During prison, I was a janitor, a GED teacher and a graduate of the Residential Drug Abuse Program. For a podcast interview of my experience, see here.
Act Three: Start-up Generalist
Following my release in 2019, I spent nearly 5 years resurrecting my career at two financial and HR technology companies, DailyPay and Salt Labs, where I performed a myriad of services, including communications, regulatory, valuation, legal support and market research. I am forever grateful to have worked for founders and managers who believe in second chances.
Act Four: Lazarus
In 2024, I launched Lazarus Freelancing to perform outsourced project-based work for a range of forward thinking companies, from start-ups to boutique service providers. Often these kinds of clients can benefit from a freelancing generalist who can execute on a multitude of idiosyncratic projects in a flexible and cost-efficient manner, while providing unbiased advice. My unique experience has provided me with a diverse set of skills and a nose for what separates the wheat from the chaff in a hypercompetitive marketplace.
